Last year we tracked down an old 1961 Jeep FC-170, and ever since, it’s been sitting in our shop waiting for its second life. With other projects on the bench, progress has been slow but we have been doing a lot of mechanical work and now we’re finally ready to dig in and start the serious work.

The vision? Something you don’t see every day: a Dakar-inspired overland rig that blends vintage Jeep heritage with modern off-road capability. We want this FC to look at home on the show floor but be tough enough to hit the trails and long hauls. Think show truck meets trail mule, a rolling platform where we can test Rockworkx designs in the wild while showcasing some of the best gear in the off-road industry.

This FC isn’t just any old Jeep, either. It has some incredible history. Before we got our hands on it, the truck spent years as part of Bobby Friedman’s collection and was a fixture at King of the Hammers and the Baja 1000 as outlined int this OffroadXtreme.com articel. It’s already proven itself as a true ambassador of off-road culture, and that legacy is something we want to carry forward.  Our plan? Bring it back to some of the very same places it’s already been and add new chapters to its story.

It was in poor shape when we got our hands on it but we’ve already teamed up with some amazing partners who will be announced as the build comes together. Like Raceline Wheels who dug out a set of discontinued, oldschool bealock rims, these rims are Fire! Other partners include drive components, lighting, recovery gear, tools,  all the essentials to transform this forward-control Jeep into something completely unique.

And this isn’t going to be a garage queen. We’ve got trips and adventures lined up where this FC will earn its stripes in real terrain. Some of it might be a little premature to announce now 😉, but let’s just say there are some bucket-list roads and events on the horizon.

This project is equal parts passion build, test rig, and adventure machine. It’s our way of pushing design, putting Rockworkx gear to the test, and keeping the Jeep FC legacy alive in a way that speaks to modern off-roaders.
